The American Fund for Charities was founded in 1997 to meet an emerging need in global philanthropy. For many non-profits outside the USA, one way to receive charitable donations from Americans is to establish a non-profit “Friends of. . .” partner organization in the USA. These partner organizations facilitate support of the overseas organization by providing American donors with tax-deductions for their gifts.
Because establishing a non-profit organization is time-consuming and costly, the American Fund was created to enable tax-deductible charitable giving to foreign non-profits that do not have their own “American Friends” organizations in the USA.
